Independent assurance report to the Directors of AngloGold Ashanti<\/h1>\n\n\n

Introduction <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As a member of the International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM), AngloGold Ashanti Limited (AngloGold Ashanti) is committed to obtaining assurance over specified assertions related to its 2022 Sustainability Report in accordance with the ICMM Mining Principles (Dec 2022).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, as a member of the World Gold Council, AngloGold Ashanti also requires assurance on its implementation of the World Gold Council (WGC) Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs) and the Conflict-free Gold Standard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

IBIS ESG Consulting Africa (Pty) Ltd (IBIS) was commissioned by AngloGold Ashanti to conduct an independent third-party assurance engagement in relation to the sustainability information in its Sustainability Report (the Report) for the financial year that ended 31 December 2022 as well as its Conflict-free Gold Report for 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IBIS is an independent licensed provider of sustainability assurance services. The assurance team was led by Petrus Gildenhuys with support from a multidisciplinary team of health, safety, social, environmental and assurance specialists with extensive experience in sustainability reporting. Petrus is a Lead Certified Sustainability Assurance Practitioner (LCSAP) with more than 25 years\u2019 experience in sustainability performance measurement involving both advisory and assurance work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assurance standard applied<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This assurance engagement was performed in accordance with AccountAbility\u2019s AA1000AS v3 (2020) (\u201cAA1000AS\u201d) and was conducted to meet the AA1000AS Type II Moderate and High level requirements respectively as indicated below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Respective responsibilities and IBIS\u2019 independence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The directors of AngloGold Ashanti are responsible for preparing its Sustainability Report and for the collection and presentation of sustainability information within the Report. The directors are also responsible for the preparation and presentation of a compliance statement in accordance with the ICMM Mining Principles and related reporting commitments. This responsibility includes the identification of stakeholders and stakeholder requirements, material sustainability issues and commitments with respect to sustainability performance, as well as for the design, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls relevant to the preparation of the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the RGMPs, AngloGold Ashanti is responsible for ensuring that the organisation designs, implements, operates and monitors activities, processes and controls to ensure compliance with policies and procedures that conform to the Principles. It is also responsible for the preparation and presentation of the report on the Conflict-free Gold Standard as well as the required disclosure thereon. This responsibility includes establishing appropriate risk management and internal controls from which the reported information is derived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IBIS\u2019 responsibility is to the Directors of AngloGold Ashanti alone and in accordance with the terms of reference agreed with AngloGold Ashanti. IBIS applies a strict independence policy and confirms its impartiality to AngloGold Ashanti in delivering the assurance engagement. This assurance engagement is the first assurance engagement conducted for AngloGold Ashanti by IBIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assurance objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the assurance engagement was to provide the management of AngloGold Ashanti with an independent assurance opinion on whether:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a) AngloGold Ashanti meets the implementation and reporting requirements in terms of its World Gold Council membership as disclosed with specific reference to the RGMPs (Moderate),<\/p>\n\n\n\n

b) AngloGold Ashanti\u2019s methodology for preparing the Conflict-Free Gold Report for 2021 are in accordance with the Conflict-Free Gold Standard (Moderate), and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

c) the Report meets the following objectives as per the ICMM Mining Principles (Dec 2022).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
